State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam announced that upcoming local government elections across the country will commence in January 2027 and conclude by June 6.

He made the statements during an interaction with journalists at the Kurigram Circuit House on Wednesday afternoon, during an official visit to Kurigram  district.

"BNP will not take responsibility for any stigma or irregularities in the local government elections," the State Minister asserted. "Those who intend to participate in the elections can prepare themselves mentally. BNP, elected by the people's votes, is the government of the people

"I will provide necessary instructions at today's law-and-order meeting to ensure free, fair, and neutral elections," Mir Shahe Alam said. "Through the media, I want to inform the nation that the Hon'ble Prime Minister has explicitly instructed that BNP will not bear any blame for irregularities or electoral stigma..

Rangpur District Council Administrator and Rangpur District BNP Convener Saiful Islam; Rangpur City Corporation Administrator Mahamudul Haque Chowdhury Don; Lalmonirhat District Council Administrator Mominul; Kurigram District BNP Convener Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa; Member Secretary and District Council Administrator Alhaj Sohel Hossain Kaykobad; Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman Hasib; Central Joint Secretary General of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Dr. Yunus Ali; President of DAB Kurigram District Branch Dr. Md. Mahfuzar Rahman Maruf; and former Kurigram Municipality Mayor Abu Bakkar Siddique were present.

Local BNP and affiliate front leaders, including Sadar Upazila BNP Convener Mahbubar Rahman, Member Secretary Abu Hanif Biplob, Pourashava BNP Convener Mohiuddin Jahangir Biplob, and Chhatra Dal President Ashraful Haque Bipul, also attended.
