BNP to come up with new programme for fresh election: Rizvi

Claiming that Awami League was not elected by the direct vote of the people, BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that his party will announce anti-government programmes immediately to press home its demand for a fresh election in the country.
“BNP’s ongoing movement will not go in vain. We will announce a new programme to force the government to hold a fresh election in the country,” Rizvi said while addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Saturday.
“A new model of dictatorship emerged in the country through the 7 January national election. Now, there are demands around the world to hold a fresh election in Bangladesh. The entire world has called for holding a fresh election in Bangladesh,” he said.
Accusing the government of undermining the country's democracy and violating people's human rights, he said that the death toll of political prisoners has reached an unprecedented level.
BNP leaders, now behind bars, are being denied access to proper medical treatment. Many of them have already met the tragic end of their lives, alleged the BNP leader.
The government has thrown around 2500 leaders and activists of BNP to jail in a bid to pave the path of holding a dummy election in the country, added the BNP leader.
