BNP has expelled Dewan Abul Bashar Badsha, vice-president of the party’s Kanchan Municipality unit, for taking part in the election campaign in favour of Awami League-backed candidate Golam Dastagir Gazi in Narayanganj-1 parliamentary constituency.
The decision was announced in an expulsion order signed by Narayanganj district unit BNP President Freedom Fighter Md Ghias Uddin and its General Secretary Golam Farooq Khokon on Wednesday.
Local BNP leader Badsha started the election campaign in support of Dastagir, incumbent textile and jute minister of the Awami League-led government, in exchange of Tk three crore, alleged local leaders and activists of the party.
Badsha has breached the party's discipline by participating in the election campaign for the Awami League candidate, they said.
He participated in the election campaign going beyond the party’s decision and now he is engaged in encouraging BNP men in the constituency to cast their vote for boat, the electoral symbol of Awami League, said local BNP men.
Local leaders and activists of BNP expressed their astonishment at the involvement of a senior leader like Badsha in such activities.
From now on, the BNP leader can no longer be eligible to hold any post or position of the party for his indulgence in such controversial activities, according to the expulsion order.
While talking to the correspondent, Ghias Uddin said, “We have expelled Badsha from the party’s all posts and positions including the primary membership for his involvement in anti-organisational activities like participating in the election campaign for the boat in the dummy election scheduled for 7 January.”
As of now, the district unit BNP and its different front and associate bodies will sever all sorts of relationships with Badsha, he said.
