
BGB operation: Goods worth Tk 43 cr seized in Jashore in 7 months, 49 arrested

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth Tk 43 crore 68 lakh in seven months at the Jashore border. The BGB said that 49 smugglers were handed over to the police in these incidents.
A press release by the 49 BGB said on Tuesday that during these operations from January to July this year, BGB members seized 7 kg 554 grams of gold, 70 kg 500 grams of silver, 37 Lac 80 Thousand US dollars, 7,572 bottles of phensedyl, 1,862 bottles of foreign liquor, 24 liters of local liquor, 500 grams of heroin, 198 pieces of yaba, more than 17,000 narcotic tablets, 197 kg of marijuana, a local pistol and 7 rounds of bullets.
Besides, a large quantity of Indian sarees, three-pieces, blankets, cosmetics, medicines and other smuggled goods were seized.
Jashore Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui (SPP, PSC) said, “49 BGB members are working all out to prevent smuggling along the 70.274-km long border area with India. Such operations will continue in the future as well.”
