Staff Correspondent
Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) has proposed a Tk 11,95,486 crore alternative budget for the next fiscal year of 2024-25.
Their proposed budget is 1.57 times higher than the government's budget of the current fiscal year.
Dr Md Aynul Islam, general secretary of BEA, proposed the budget at a press conference held at its Eskaton office.
Aynul Islam said that this alternative budget has been proposed to achieve seven goals in the next 10 years. The goals include 70-80 per cent of country's people into sustainable middle class, minimise discrimination, distribution of wealth of the rich among the poor and low-income people.
In his presentation, he showed 27 new ways to increase revenue.
"No foreign loan will be required in the proposed budget. If this budget is implemented, it is possible to move the majority of the country's people from lower class to middle class."
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali is likely to place a Tk 7,96,900 crore budget for fiscal year 2024-25 at Jatiya Sangsad on June 6.
