Vice-Chancellor of Barishal University ( BU) Muhammad Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan has resigned in the face of students' agitation on Monday.
Earlier the students held a protest march and rally demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and Proctor. They gave an ultimatum to the assembly to resign within 24 hours.
The students said that the current Vice Chancellor (VC) and the Proctor harassed the students in various ways during the agitation. Even though there were many allegations of corruption and irregularities against them, they did not face any question because of the Awami League government's tabedari all the time.
The students complained that the university administration sometimes followed the order of the two former mayors of Barishal City Corporation, and sometimes followed the order of the Sadar MP. Many teachers, including the VC-Proctor of the university, were seen more in the homes of Awami League leaders than in the university.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Vice-Chancellor announced that he would withdraw his involvement from all political and party activities.
