Banks asked to freeze accounts of Quader

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has asked all the banks to freeze the accounts of former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader.
In a letter sent on Tuesday, the BFIU directed that the transaction of accounts – maintained by Quader or companies registered in his name – be suspended for the next 30 days under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
Apart from that, the intelligence unit instructed the institutions to suspend locker facilities availed by the individual or his companies for the same period.
The banks have been asked to send all documents related to the accounts and transaction statements to the BFIU.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, disappeared from the political arena soon after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister and fled to India on 5 August in the face of the student-led uprising.
