The duration of the "Municipal Tax Fair 2025" organized by the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC ) has been extended by another 15 days. In the first 15 days of the fair, more than 3,000 citizens responded by paying their outstanding holding taxes and WASA bills. A total of Tk 102,023,000 has been collected in overdue holding taxes during this period—nearly one-fifth of the total outstanding amount.
NCC Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Zakir Hossain, stated that in the previous fiscal year (2024–25), the three regions under NASIK had approximately Tk 560 million in outstanding holding taxes. Within the first 15 days of the fair, Tk 102 million has already been collected. Around Tk 400 million in holding taxes still remain due. "We have extended the fair for another 15 days, and we hope to collect a good portion of the remaining dues during this time," he said. "Citizens have responded positively."
According to NCC sources, the tax fair's incentive measures have received significant attention from residents. The total collection from the three NCC regions amounts to Tk 102,023,863. This includes Tk 27.7 million from the Narayanganj region, Tk 26.9 million from the Kadamrasul region, and Tk 47.3 million from the Siddhirganj region.
Daily collections from the fair are as follows: Day 1: Tk 1.99 million. Day 2: Tk 9.56 million. Day 3: Tk 3.98 million. Day 4: Tk 3.43 million. June 22: Tk 5.36 million. June 23: Tk 4.85 million. June 24: Tk 5.61 million. June 25: Tk 9.89 million. June 26: Tk 12.55 million. June 29: Tk 27.34 million. June 30: Tk 17.42 million
The public turnout and response at the NASIK-organized municipal tax fair have been notably high. The event has seen strong participation in settling outstanding holding taxes and WASA dues. Encouraged by this response, NCC has decided to extend the fair’s duration by another 15 days.
NCC’s revenue officer stated, “We’ve received even better feedback than expected. Many residents are coming forward voluntarily to clear their overdue taxes, which has had a very positive impact on revenue collection.” In addition to collecting over Tk 100 million in outstanding taxes and WASA dues, the fair has also received a significant number of new holding registration applications.
Though former Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy is currently absent, NCC sources confirm that the fair was initiated based on her prior policy decisions to encourage civic participation in tax payments. The revenue department has hinted at the possibility of organizing mobile tax fairs by ward in the future if the momentum continues.
The fair operates daily from 9 AM to 5 PM at NCC' s city headquarters and, under the new schedule, will continue until July 15.
The "Municipal Tax Fair 2025" was inaugurated on June 16 at NCC's city building. The opening event was attended by NASIK Administrator AHM Kamruzzaman, city councillors, representatives from business communities, and general citizens. In the keynote address, NCC urged citizens with outstanding taxes to take responsibility, stating, “Citizen participation in revenue collection is essential for urban development.” NCC also promised enhanced services in return for timely tax payments.
