Bangladesh's trade relations with India increased in seven months of interim govt : Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam
Mir Afroz Zaman
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to Chief Advisor Dr. Mohammad Yunus, said that our relations with India are very good. He said, 'Since the interim government took power in these seven months, trade with India has increased further. Our relations are good, but there are some complications regarding visas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs can speak about that. But we want good relations with India, of course it should be a relationship of fairness, equality and dignity'.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.
Shafiqul Alam said, 'The visit of the Chief Advisor to China is a historic visit. China wants to import three agricultural products from us in a very large scale. These are mango, jackfruit and guava. We hope that a new horizon of export to China will be opened. Chinese citizens like Bangladeshi mangoes. This visit will open up the Chinese market for us. The Chinese also like jackfruit, and we hope to export it on a large scale. FAO is giving us four million dollars to ensure the quality of mangoes. Some standards have to be maintained for export, and they are providing us with technical assistance to maintain them. As a result, Bangladeshi mangoes will go to China on a large scale;
He also said, 'Professor Yunus wants Chinese healthcare institutions to come and invest in Bangladesh. Then we will get high-quality healthcare at our doorstep. Chinese healthcare is very famous. If this happens, we will get their services in big cities including Dhaka. A special effort is being made for this. We want relations with China to be stronger on the healthcare issue. The Chief Advisor has discussed this before. It will be the highest priority during this visit.'
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said at the press conference that the Media Reform Commission will submit its report to the Chief Advisor next Saturday (March 22). We expect the report of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission to be submitted this month, or after the chief advisor's visit to China. There were various ad hoc committees in the sports institutions. A search committee was formed to change them. But there was no specific deadline for this search committee. Today, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has set a deadline of April 20 through a letter.
