Ban on Jamaat-Shibir may be lifted tomorrow: Lawyer

Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, the lawyer for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has said that the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir is expected to be withdrawn on Tuesday.
Advocate Shishir provided this information at a press conference at the Supreme Court on Monday (26 August).
He said, “I have spoken with the Ministry of Home Affairs. They have informed me that the entire procedure has been completed. Today is a public holiday, I am hopeful that the ban will be withdrawn tomorrow (Tuesday).”
On 1 August, the Awami League government banned Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and all of its front organisations as political parties and entities under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009.
On 5 August, Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country in the face of a mass uprising against her AL government.
