Attack on BGB camp in Patgram :  6 including BNP leaders sent to  jail

Police have arrested six people, including four BNP leaders, on charges of obstructing government work and misbehaving with BGB members in connection with illegal sand and stone extraction in the Meserghat border area of Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. They were sent to jail by the Lalmonirhat District Court on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in a case filed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
 
The arrested are: Rafiqul Islam (50), Organizing Secretary of Burimari Union BNP, Ayub Ali (50), General Secretary of Ward No. 6 BNP of the same union, Abu Sayem (28), General Secretary of Ward Volunteer Party, Moti Rahman (40), Senior Vice President of Ward Volunteer Party, and Shahadat Hossain (40) and Dulal Mia (48) of Chotakhata village of Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district.
 
According to the case details, on the night of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a patrol team of the Baura Dangatari Camp of the 51st BGB Battalion in Rangpur witnessed the scene of two autovans carrying illegally lifted sand and stones and a dredger machine while patrolling the Baura Bazar area. The BGB members seized the autovan along with the dredger machine, pipes and drums and took them to the Kuchlibari BGB camp.
 
Later, at around 1:10 am, the owners of the seized equipment, Rafiqul Islam, Ayub Ali, Abu Sayeem and Matiar Rahman, arrived at the Kuchlibari BGB camp on a motorcycle and tried to forcibly snatch the seized goods. At that time, they got into an argument and scuffle with the BGB members. At the same time, they were accused of disrupting the security of the government establishment and the BGB camp. They were accused of intimidating and threatening the members. Later, the BGB members of the camp arrested them.
 
During the operation, 1 6-cylinder diesel dredger machine, 4 empty oil drums, 10 thick pipes, 1 ring pipe, 2 battery-operated autovans, 1 motorcycle, 4 Android and 3 button mobile phones were seized from the detainees. The estimated value of the seized goods is 14.56 lakh taka, according to the BGB.
 
In this incident, Havildar Uttam Chandra Das of Baura Dangatari Camp filed a case with Patgram Police Station on the morning of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, for obstructing government work. The arrested persons were handed over to the police station.
 
,Patgram Police Station OC Saiful Islam said, "Six people detained in a BGB case on charges of obstructing government work were shown arrested and handed over to the Lalmonirhat court on Wednesday, September 9. The court did not grant them bail and sent them to the district jail
