The American Society for Microbiology (ASM), branch of Islamic University, was inaugurated and a quiz competition was arranged at Islamic University (IU). The program was held in the Dr. M. A. Wazed Miah Science Building at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The president of ASM Student IU Chapter Shovon Saha gave a presentation on ASM. Later, a quiz competition of 50 marks was held on various topics of microbiology with the participation of students from each department of the Faculty of Biology.

Dr. Minnatul Karim, Biology and Genetical Engineering Department, presided over the program. Abu Juha, general secretary of ASM, and Udisha Islam, student of the academic year 2021-2022, jointly moderated the program. In this program, Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, vice chancellor of IU, was the chief guest. Besides, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, former ASM country ambassador and Professor of SUST and Dr. Rezuanul Islam, Dean of the Biological Science Faculty.

Rezuanul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science, said, “We see different types of plants and animals with our open eyes. But the world that we can't see is more diverse and beautiful. The places where we have right to go will be held. We will focus especially on those chapters by which the reputation of IU and ASM will increase.

Vice-chancellor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said, “I always encourage the research activities. As there are 17 journals of this organization and have free access permission, I will tell you all to work more and publish articles. If you don't publish the articles, you won't get out of your ingrained thoughts. I request to the teachers to launch various research projects or assistance or make them access to the research. In this case, students will get inspiration, and the number of research projects will increase. They will be able to cope with the competitive secretary.

Noted, a 15-member committee of ASM Student Chapter IU branch was given last May. Shovon Saha of the academic year 2017-18 was elected as the president and Abu Reza of the same academic year was elected as the general secretary of ASM Student Chapter IU.
