A section of members of the Bangladesh Jewelery Association (BAJUS) demanded to dissolve the board and appoint an administrator and later elect the leadership through voting by the general members as soon as possible.

On Wednesday (August 28), some of the members of the trade organization made these demands in a press conference held at the former head office of the Jewelers Association in Baitul Mukarram Mosque Market in the city.

In the press conference, former president of the association Enamul Haque Khan read the statement . Former general secretary of the association Dilip Kumar Agarwala was also present at this time.

They alleged that Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir forcibly took membership of the association despite not having any jewelery business. Even though the membership was taken in the name of Bashundhara Gold Refinery Limited, it has not been operational till date.

Enamul Haque Khan claimed that Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan took them hostage by calling them for tea while preparing for the election in the last 2021-2023 term. At that time they were pressured not to elect BAJUS president and make Anveer as president of the organisation.

According to his complaint, Sayem Sobhan Anveer formed an election commission under his command by violating the constitution of the association and trade organization policy. He declared himself as the president without giving an opportunity to ordinary candidates to purchase nomination forms. In the next term also Sayem Sobhan Anvir B was elected in the same process.

At that time, Enamul Haque Khan also complained that the president of the association, Sayem Sobhan Anvir had fixed the price of gold by ignoring the domestic and international rates.
