Alluring with the offers of travelling abroad, Bangladesh Ju-Jitsu Association general secretary Rafiqul Islam Newton used to rape the female players, said Rapid Action Battlion (RAB).
RAB's Legal and Media Wing director Commander Arafat Islam stated it at a media conference at the RAB's media centre at Kawran Bazar in the capital on Saturday (May 18).
Arafat Islam said Rafiqul Islam Newton is a trainer of ju-jitsu game. He confessed his involvement in rape under primary interrogation. If any girl became pregnant due to his immoral acts, he used to force them to go for abortion. Even, he used to enter the dress changing rooms of the female players before practice and raped them forcibly. There he used to take photographs and recorded videos. Another woman of the association assisted him in such activities.
The RAB official said Rafiqul Islam Newton went into hiding in different places of the country to avert arrest after one of his victims filed a case against him. The RAB arrested him when he went into hiding.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-12) arrested two accused including Newton from Shah Ali Police Station and Mirpur Police Station areas on Saturday.
There are allegations that Rafiqul Islam Newton raped a female ju-jitsu repeatedly threatening to spread her photographs and videos on social media.
It may be mentioned that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) voluntarily took over the allegation (suomoto) after a news, headlined, "[He] used to take away chastity of trainees in the name of teaching kung-fu-karate" was published in a newspaper.
The NHRC also sent a letter to the the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports asking him to submit a report after taking legal action on the basis of an inquiry into the complaint.
There are allegations that Newton was involved in rape and physical torture on a number of female players including gold medal recipients sports women.
