State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury stressed everyone's combined efforts to reduce migration costs.
“Vigilance will be increased so that middlemen cannot infiltrate the safe, orderly, and regular migration process. The cost of migration increases largely because of the intervention of two or three levels of middlemen. We all need to work together to remove such practices and reduce migration costs,” he said.
The state minister was addressing a view-exchange meeting with the representatives of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) at Prabasi Kallyan Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.
He also urged everyone to search for new labour markets and create skilled workers according to the labour market demand.
Addressing the meeting, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Md Ruhul Amin said that their goal is safe, regular, and responsible migration.
“Everyone should work with transparency and accountability to this end. The responsible role of all stakeholders in the overall protection of expatriate workers is very important,” he said.
Additional Secretary Md Khairul Alam, Director General of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Md Hamidur Rahman, Director General of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Saleh Ahmad Mozaffar, BOESL Managing Director Dr Mallik Anwar Hossain, and BAIRA Secretary General Ali Haider Chowdhury, were present in the meeting, among others.
