AL leader helps to arrest another leader in Srinagar

Srinagar (Munshiganj) Correspondent

A leaked phone call of an Awami League leader has gone viral on social media, revealing the alleged involvement of another Awami League leader behind the arrest of a local leader. This has sparked outrage among Awami League activists in the area.

According to reports, Samad Member, Vice President of the Bhagyakul Union Awami League and former Union Parishad member, was arrested by the police on the night of October 17. The following day, Srinagar Police stated that Samad fell ill after being brought to the station and was subsequently released to his family as there were no cases filed against him. This incident stirred discussions across the Upazila at the time.

However, a few days ago, a three-minute phone call recording of Babu Mukter, General Secretary of Ward No. 2 of Bhagyakul Union Awami League, went viral on social media. In the recording, Babu Mukter is heard speaking to someone named Jamal, stating that Samad could not be detained due to the lack of any cases against him and political pressure from a BNP leader. At one point in the conversation, Babu Mukter admitted that his "contacts" had betrayed him.

Former Union Parishad member Abdul Samad stated that he had left politics long ago due to health issues, despite previously being involved in Awami League activities. He added that if the phone call recording hadn’t leaked, he wouldn’t have believed Babu Mukter's involvement in such activities. He described Babu Mukter as a well-known fraudster in the area, with several allegations of forgery against him.

Babu Mukter was not available for comments as his phone was found switched off.
