Additional Inspector General of Police ( AIGP) and Chief of Tourist Police Habibur Rahman has received the 'International Mother Language Medal-2023' Award on Tuesday.

He received the medal from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a ceremony organized at the auditorium of International Mother Language Institute on Tuesday (February 21) on the occasion of great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.

For the second time, the 'International Mother Language Medal' is being given for contributions to the preservation, revival, development, practice and propagation of the mother tongue.

The International Mother Language Medal is a civilian award of Bangladesh. This International Mother Language Medal was started in 2021 in recognition of special contributions to mother tongue across the world. The medal is being awarded every two years since 2021.

The government introduced the medal on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This time several people including Habibur Rahman have been nominated for this award. The nominees include Professor Ranjit Singh, Mahendra Kumar Mishra, India and International Mother Language Lovers Association, Canada. Aminur Rahman will receive the award later.

Habibur Rahman received this medal for contributing to the collection of 'Thar' language, the extinct mother tongue of the 'Bede' community. This language has no letters or script. Basically it is spoken language. Which is beyond the understanding of ordinary people.

According to linguists, the small part of the 'Mantang 'people who entered Bangladesh with the refugee Arakan Raj Balalraj in 1638 is called 'Thar' or 'Thet' or 'Thek' language. Eight years of research on the mysterious 'Thar' language, the complete book 'Thar Veda Jannagruna Bhasha' was published last year.

Habibur Rahman received the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) three times and the President's Police Medal (PPM) twice in recognition of his good work at work.

Moreover, his work with the underprivileged people of the society, the Vedic community and the third gender people has been appreciated.

Apart from carrying out important responsibilities as a senior police officer, Habibur Rahman also edited some other important works. Spreading the light of education among the children of the slums, tracing the police resistance fighters against the Pakistani invaders in the 1970s, editing books about them are notable among these works.
