"I am a freedom fighter myself, so safe exit is not for me. I will stay in this country," said Farooq E Azam, Advisor to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
He was inaugurating Typhoid Vaccination Campaign at Barishal Government Girls' Higher Secondary School on Sunday.
He said that the government is working relentlessly to protect the health of the country's children. This initiative of the government to prevent deadly diseases like typhoid is historic.
The first-ever typhoid vaccination campaign has begun across the country from today. In this month-long program, around 50 million children and adolescents aged between 9 months and 15 years will be vaccinated free of charge. Children will receive this vaccine even if they do not have a birth certificate.
Advisor Farooq-e-Azam was the chief guest at the inauguration of the typhoid vaccination program in Barishal.
He said, "We need to build prevention systems in advance, not treat the disease after it occurs."
After this, at 12:30 pm, he inaugurated a vaccination program to prevent typhoid at Barisal District School.
2.614 million children in Barisal division will be covered under this vaccination. Vaccinations will be given in educational institutions from October 12 to 30 and in government and private healthcare centers from November 1 to 13. Street children will also not be left out of this program.
The Health Department said the vaccine was developed by the Serum Institute of India, which the government received with the support of the international vaccine support organization Gavi. The World Health Organization (WHO)-approved vaccine is completely safe and has been successfully used in eight countries, including Nepal and Pakistan.
The government's goal is to vaccinate 49 million children under this campaign. Of these, 16.8 million children have already registered. In addition to registration, vaccination can be done directly by going to vaccination centers with the help of health workers.
The Ministry of Health has announced that vaccination will continue in educational institutions for the first 10 days, and the next 8 days will be at EPI centers.
