Actress Nasreen Akhter Nipun on Wednesday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking cancellation of the recently concluded election of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association (BFAA) on charges of irregularities and electoral fraud.
Nipun, who was a candidate for the general secretary post in the elections, also sought a ban on the newly formed committee led by Misha Sawdagar and Monowar Hossain Dipjol from performing its duties.
The writ was filed with the court of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Haque. The High Court may hold hearing on the writ petition on the next Sunday, said Nipun’s lawer Palash Chandra Roy.
The Film Artists Association election was held on 19 April, where Misha Sawdagar was elected as the new president for the 2024-2026 term, while Monowar Hossain Dipjol was elected as the general secretary.
Dipjol secured the general secretary position with 225 votes, surpassing Nipun, who received 209 votes.
