Actor Siddique placed on 7-day remand in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court today granted a 7-day remand for actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique in connection with an attempted murder case involving van driver Jabbar Ali Hawlader during last year’s anti-discrimination student protest in Gulshan.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the remand order after police sought 10 days.
Siddique was handed over to Gulshan Police after being assaulted on April 29 by men claiming to be Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal members.
The case stems from a July 19, 2023 incident where shots were fired on protesters, injuring Jabbar.
He later filed a case naming 109 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Siddique, originally from Tangail, had previously sought Awami League nominations in national elections but was unsuccessful.
