ABPC rally in NY seeks objective journalism to stop propaganda in social media

In the speech of the chief guest at the meeting of the America-Bangladesh Press Club (ABPC) in New York, Consul General Md. Nazmul Huda said the free flow of information due to social media has become a problem.

It has become a big challenge for the society. In this situation, those who are in the established media houses, who are professionally involved in journalism, they will practice journalism objectively, we hope that they will present the truth and real information before us.

Nazmul Huda said, several newspapers are published every week from New York, besides, through electronic media, we read news of the country, abroad and expatriates every day, we see a reflection of the current times. That is why we are deeply grateful to the journalists.

Nazmul Huda also said that the profession of journalism is also a challenging profession. We hope that the professional journalists of New York will also serve more information that is helpful in the development of Bangladesh.

Head of Chancery of the Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations Shoaib Abdullah was present as honourable guest.

Shoaib Abdullah said, with the determination to build Bangabandhu's dream of Sonar Bangla, under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are moving forward in the midst of a hundred adversities, it goes without saying that the contribution of expatriates is immense. I hope that Bangladeshi journalists in the United States will promote that success story more. At the same time, we hope that the role of the media will be strengthened in order to strengthen the existing relationship between the United States and Bangladesh.

At that time, the district leader of the Democratic Party and famous attorney Moin Chowdhury said that it has become very difficult to get accurate news in this era of social media. There are some news about our profession, which have no basis, to feel embarrassed. Because those who are not really journalists spread things on social media that simple people think is right. Later, when he was in trouble, he called us to inquire about that information. That is why it is the responsibility of those who have taken education in journalism to prevent unjournalism.

Chancellor Engineer Abubakar Hanip of Washington University of Science and Technology said, the community is now prosperous. The news of this community is served by the journalists of this club with responsibility and dedication. Through which the mainstream people are also able to be informed about the progress of Bangladeshi Americans.

Americans have also been informed about the fact that more than 10,000 Bangladeshis have received high-paying jobs in the US IT sector from the People and Tech Institute led by me through the news provided by our professional journalist friends.

Powerful expatriate poet and columnist Fakir Ilyas said, our roots are the spirit of the liberation war. Those who are writing and doing journalism should not deviate from that spirit in spite of various obstacles. Because, this country is ours, this nation is ours and the generation is also ours. Everyone should be informed with correct information.

New Hampshire State Representative Abul Khan, Mayor of Milbourne City, Pennsylvania also spoke as a special guest at the event on the evening of February 28 at Gulshan Terrace, Woodside, Jackson Heights, on the occasion of the introduction of the committee formed for the 2024-2025 term of the 'America-Bangladesh Press Club', which consists of journalists working in the United States. Mahbubul Alam Tayyab, New York City Mayor's Asian Adviser Fahad Solaiman, mainstream politician and businessman Ghiyas Ahmed, weekly Azkal editor Shahnewaz, real estate investor Nurul Azim, community leader engineer Fazlul Haque, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artist Bir Muktijoddha Kaderi Kibria, Sector Commanders Forum - Liberation War'71 United States branch president and former ABPC president Labloo Ansar, Bronx Community Board Immigration Chairperson Shahjahan Sheikh, Homecare Executive Nilufa Shirin, United States Lions Club President Ahsan Habib, travel businessman Belal Hossain and others.
The national anthems of the United States and Bangladesh were performed by the artists of Vahnishikha Sangeet Niketan under the leadership of Savita Das.

After that, the officials of the new committee of ABPC were called to the stage and introduced to everyone, besides giving special mementos to everyone.

The officers are: President heroic freedom fighter Rashed Ahmed, Vice President Popi Chowdhury and Alim Khan Akash, General Secretary Shah Farooq Rahman, Treasurer Zaman Tapan, Joint Secretary Azim Uddin Avi, Organizing Secretary-Ariful Islam, Publicity Secretary Anisur Rahman. The executive members are freedom fighters Lablu Ansar, Kanu Dutt, Tapan Chowdhury, Rajub Bhowmik and Laila Khaleda. Shahidullah Kaiser, Pratapchandra Sheel, Subrata Chowdhury, Shamim Al Amin, Mostafa Aneek Raj, Nurunnahar Nisha, Alamgir Kabir, Abdul Awal Mintu, Vir Muktijoddha Mohammad Ali Hossain, Rizwana Elvis, Jolly Ahmed, Md. were active members of the club at that time. Shaheen Hawladar, Pinaki Talukder, Soumik Ahmed, Aditya Shaheen were awarded Crest. Before this, all the honored guests of the program were dressed in suits by the club officials.

Under the supervision of Shamim Al Amin, Member-Secretary of ABPC's introduction meeting, all the brave freedom fighters present at the event were also raised on the stage and given the club's shirts. Among the freedom fighters were Rezaul Bari, Abul Bashar Chunnu, Gulzar Hossain, Imdadul Haque, Ashraf Ali, Sharafat Khan Mobeen and Dr. Chowdhury Sarwarul Hasan. Among those representing various professions of the community were Dhaka University Alumni Association US Branch President Syeda Akhtar Lily Khan, former Secretary Tajul Islam, Bangladeshi American Police Association-Bapar Media Liajo Jamil Sarwar Johnny, Captain Syed Enayet, Shamim Hossain, Attab President Salim Haroon, Community Activist. Lutfar Rahman Latu, agriculturist Mizanur Rahman, cultural organizer Sabina Hai Urbi, Dulal Behedu, Riaz Mahmud, Abu Taleb Chowdhury Chandu and others. The surprise of the whole event was the Beeper artistes.

They enthralled everyone by performing party dances and songs. Ekushey medalist singer Kaderi Kibria performed a song calling everyone of conscience to wake up to prevent global humanitarian disaster.

Jolly Das, another popular expatriate singer, accompanied him in another song that evoked the spirit of the liberation war. The event concluded with a delicious dinner at Gulshan Terrace late at night. It is to be noted that despite the inclement weather, there was a huge crowd. On this occasion, a magazine named 'Prabhakar' was published in which two separate critical articles on the first Bengali weekly Digant in America and all the media published during that time caught everyone's attention.
