7.5 lakh law enforcers to be on duty during national polls: EC

The Election Commission (EC) said that around 7.5 lakh members of different law enforcement agencies will be deployed during the 12th national elections.
On the occasion, the EC held a meeting with the representatives of the Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard on Monday (20 November).
After the meeting, EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath told reporters that 5.16 lakh members of the Ansar, 1.82 lakh members of the police and RAB, 2,355 Coast Guard officials and 46, 876 members of the BGB will be deployed during the polls.
He said, "They (law enforcement agencies) presented a demand in line with the manpower. But it has not been finalised. The amount will be paid according to the number of members appointed as per the approved rate of the Ministry of Finance,"
"They sought for some advance allocation of the budget. We will discuss that based on how much we can allocate," he added.
The 12th parliamentary elections are slated for 7 January. The EC announced the polls schedule earlier on 15 November.
