Staff Correspondent

A mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation sealed off a seven-storey building in the capital's Khigaon area declaring it 'fire risky'.

Executive magistrate Md Jahangir Alam led the South City Corporation raid. He alongwith other members entered the building around 11:30am.

There they found 'Shawarma King' restaurant on the first floor of the building. Manager or owner of the restaurant were not present. The employees failed to show any papers to the team. Then the mobile court team went to the second floor where they found another restaurant. They did not saw its owner.

Later the Fire Service team hung a banner writing 'very risky'. And the mobile court team sealed off the whole building as found lack of fire safety measures.

There are restaurants, housed on every floor of the building. The construction work of another restaurant is being underway at parking place.

Magistrate Jahangir said the building was temporary closed for fire risk. Next steps will be taken after scrutinising the restaurants' papers.

Local people said many restaurants in the area have remained closed since morning fearing the drive.

RAJUK, the South City Corporation and the police are carrying out their separate operations to ensure fire safety measures.
