A gang of seven members of the fake DB police was arrested in Cumilla by the real DB police on Tuesday .

They were arrested by raids in different places of Chittagong and Cumilla.

During this time, domestic weapons along with several police equipments were recovered from them.

Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md. Abdul Mannan gave this information.
It was informed in the press briefing that Saiful Islam, a resident of Rangpur district, came to Cumilla about a month ago to work as a day labourer.

On the evening of October 13, two members of the fraud gang copied all the numbers in his mobile phone and diverted it to their number by showing the lure of doing good work in Chawkbazar area of the city. At one stage, the DB police demanded a ransom of taka 3 lakh from his relatives.

In this incident, Saiful Islam's family called 999 for help and contacted the district DB office but could not be found. Later, on October 31, the victim Saiful Islam filed a case against the anonymous fraudster. Later DB Police arrested 7 members of the gang including two women with the help of information technology.

A khaki waist jacket with DB written on it, a handcuff, two rounds of bullets, a knife and 9 mobile phones were recovered from them.

The arrested are Sabuj Mia (27) son of Churok Mia of Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district, Ratan Mia son of Sabur Mia of Kaliuta village, Moin Uddin (20) son of Mosharof Hossain of Bara Alampur village of Debidwar upazila of Comilla, Osman Gani (35) son of Shahid Mia of Muradnagar upazila, Ariful Islam (20) son of Shahidul Islam of Amtalipara village of Lama upazila of Bandarban district, Akhi Noor (23) wife of Sabuj Mia of Kaliuta village of Brahmanbaria district and Sonia Begum alias Farida (29) wife of Osman Gani of Darora Bazar village of Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla.

Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan said that a case filed by RAB against the arrestees in the case of forgery of corona certificate by pretending to be a fake doctor is under investigation.

When the accused were brought to court on Tuesday, the judge denied them bail and ordered them to be sent to jail.
