5 million tons of rice production reduced due to water shortage from Teesta : Amir Khusro

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khusro Mahmud Chowdhury said that 1.5 million tons of rice is being produced less due to lack of water from Teesta.
He was addressing a protest programme 'Jago Bahe Teesta Bachai organised by Teesta River Protection Movement on the banks of Teesta at the head of the paved road in Thetrai Union of Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday afternoon.
He said, the demand for a fair share of Teesta water is an internationally just principle. Everyone demands that the water distribution system be restored.The effects of climate change have already begun here.
People are leaving their homes. The movement called for by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has touched the hearts of Bangladesh, he added.
A solution is not possible without the public support of the people of Bangladesh. The BNP has started this movement to solve this.
The second day of the 48-hour sit-in program demanding the implementation of the Teesta Agreement and the master plan is being held at 11 points in five districts of Rangpur division today at noon. The program includes rallies, marches and cultural performances. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the sit-in program on the banks of the Teesta River at the head of the paved road in Thetrai Union of Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram this afternoon.
District BNP Convener Mostafizur Rahman, member secretary Sohel Hosnain Kaikobad, joint conveners Shafiqul Islam Bebu, Hasibur Rahman Hasib and local leaders were present.
