Satkhira Correspondent
Sime r8 members of the anti-discrimination student movement committee in Shyamnagar, Satkhira have announced their resignation.
At a press conference at the Shyamnagar Upazila Press Club auditorium on Wednesday, 48 members of the organization accused the organization of unlimited nepotism, undemocratic decisions and undervaluing the sacrifices of the leaders and workers at the field level.
Md. Masum Billah read out a written statement at the press conference.
He said, ‘A list of 76 members of the Shyamnagar Upazila Committee was published in a circular signed by the Satkhira District Committee on April 7 of this year. However, no opinion was taken before the formation of this committee and real student leaders who have been working for a long time in the dream of forming a new Bangladesh have been excluded.’
He further alleged, ‘The field workers have been cut to make way for many beneficiaries with the sole motive. Those who have never been in the movement or struggle have been given important positions in the committee.
He further said that he did not only resign but also expressed his conviction that he would organize anew in the future to protect the ideals of the organization. He said that this is an ideological platform where students' unity is built against discrimination. But unfortunately, that spirit has been eroded.
According to the copy of the written statement read at the press conference, 48 members of the 76 members of the committee have already signed their resignations in writing.
They claimed, "We do not believe in the shadow of any political party, but in building a non-discriminatory and democratic society." It is with that belief that we are resigning in protest against such a monopolistic and undemocratic decision of the organization.'
Among others, GM Masum Billah, Billal Hossain, Zahid Hasan, Abdullah Al Siam, Muntasir Rahman, Rokon and others were present at the press conference.
