
372 patients undergo cataract surgery free of cost in Sylhet

A total of 650 poor people of five upazilas of Sylhet district will undergo cataract surgery free of cost under a programme funded by the UK-based donor organisation Muntada Aid and at the initiative of voluntary organisation Aman.
Till December 13, a total of 372 patients have undergone cataract surgery. The remaining patients will be operated on in phases.
The surgeries were conducted at Vard Eye Hospital at Osmaninagar in Sylhet.
Md Moin Uddin, 64, a patient from Goainghat, said, ‘I had been suffering from eyesight problems for a long time, because of this problem, it was very difficult to walk. As a result of the operation, I can now see properly and no longer have problems with movement. Thanks Muntada Aid and Aman.’
Patient Nila Khatun, 55, from Sultanpur of Biyanibazar upazila, said, I had a problem with my eyes for a long time, I couldn’t see properly, so I couldn’t go out, couldn’t read the Quran. Alhamdulillah, after the operation, now I can see properly, I can read Quran Sharif.’ She thanked Muntada Aid and Aman.
Md Sarafatur Rahman, representative of the voluntary organisation Aman, said that Aman had been working for the poor, helpless and underprivileged people for a long time. The cataract surgery programme is a continuation of the voluntary work.
