2 EPZ officials killed in bus-microbus collision in Pabna

Two officials of Export Processing Zone (EPZ) were killed in a collision between a bus and microbus at Ishwardi upazila in Pabna district on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at around 8.30am on the Dashuria-Kushtia highway in Kolerkandi area under Salimpur union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Amit Kumar Kundu, 40, son of Subrata Kumar Kundu, a resident of Radhanagar area under Pabna municipality, and Nasim Hossain, 45, son of Abdur Rauf, of Sheikhpara village under Muladali union of Ishwardi union-- all were officials of Ishwardi EPZ.

According to witnesses, a SN Paribahan passenger bus was heading towards Ishwardi from Kushtia. On the other hand, a microbus from Dashuria was going towards EPZ.

On the way, the both vehicles collided head-on with each other, leaving several passengers of the microbus, including the duo, critically injured.

Locals rescued them and took to Ishwardi Uapzila Health Complex but the duo succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

Pakshi Highway Police outpost in-charge Ashish Kumar Sanal said being informed, police recovered the bodies and seized the both vehicles from the spot, however, the driver and helper of the bus managed to flee the scene.

"It was assumed that the accident might have happened due to dense fog and legal action is underway in this regard," added the police official.
