Some 18 personalies including Md Hemayet Hossain, Editor of the English daily 'The Country Today', have received the 'Birangana Sakhina (BS) Silver Pen Award' in recognition of outstanding and commendable special contribution to different fields including journalism.

Eminent Poet Nirmalendu Gun, Professor Jatin Sarkar, Dr Md Mehidi Masood, MA Malek and others were awarded in different fields including literature, languaage, research and social services.

Dr Mirza Mofazzal Islam, Director General of Bangladesh Atomic Agriculture Research Institute along with other guests handed over the crest and citation among the recipients of the Award at Mymensingh City Corporation Shaheed Sahab Uddin Hall auditorium on Saturday.

Journalists include Jibon Islam, Economic Reporter of Daily Observer, Altab Hossain, Special Correspondent of daily Jai Jai Din, Staff Reporter of Ekatar TV. Babul Hossain and journalist Farid Khan.

Apart from this, poet Sufia Begum, Kendua Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Nurul Islam, agronomist Dr. Md. Mehdi Masum, retired Superintendent of Police Abdur Rahman Khan, social worker MA Malek, former general secretary of Kishoreganj Press Club Subir Basak and heroic freedom fighter Ziauddin Ahmed.

President of the Electoral Committee. Under the chairmanship of Fajar Ali, the former dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Paresh Chandra Modak, BFUJ and Mymensingh Press Club Vice President Mosharraf Hossain, playwright Rakhal Biswas, Nazma Momtaz, Anwarul Haque Ripon and griculturist Dr. Mehdi Masud were present as special guests.

The programme was hosted by Sadekul Islam and Zahirul Huq Liton. Anwar Hossain Shaheen, Co-editor of Pen Award Affairs' magazine and member of the Electoral committee.

It may be noted that the organization named 'The Electoral Committee for Virangana Sakhina Silver Pen Award' organizes awards for important contributions in various fields.

The award has been given since 2011 through electoral votes to keep the memory of self-sacrifice in the battle of Killatajpur unforgettable by Birangana Sakhina Bibi, daughter of Umar Khan, the loyal Mughal Emperor's ruler and last descendant of Isha Khan, wife of Dewan Firoz Khan of 'Jungle Bari ' situated in Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh.
