14 Jamaat leaders, activists including Laksam Upazila Ameer arrested

The police arrested 14 leaders and activists including the upazila Amir from the Jamiatus Sunnah Tahfizul Quran madrasa in Bakai area of Laksam upazila of Cumilla . Laksam police arrested them on Friday.
The arrested are Bangladesh Jamaat Islami Laksam Upazila Amir Hafez Md Zahirul Islam (58), Kandirpar West Union Jamaat Amir Abu Hanif (27), Deputy General Secretary Md Omar Farooq (32), 9th Ward President Md Abul Hashem (52), Jamaat Workers Md. Nazrul Islam (38), Nur Alam (30), Belal Hossain (40), Abdul Momin (53), Bazlur Rahman (70), Abu Taher (66). At that time, the police seized Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami member (RUCON) candidate forms, ward organization report forms, Islami Chhatrashibir's annual report and some registers. A case has been filed against them under the Special Powers Act.
Earlier on Thursday, police arrested 4 workers of Jamaat named Mehdi Hasan, Ibrahim Khalil, Abdullah Al Mamun and Habibullah Rakib. The arrested were sent to Comilla court. The court sent them to jail. Laxam Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mahfuz confirmed the arrest.
Thomas Barua, OC (Investigation) of Laksam police station said that on the news of a special meeting of 40/50 people of Jamaat at this place, police station sub-inspector HMA Latif, sub-inspector Thawaichamong Chak Nayan and assistant sub-inspector Durjoy Baruah raided and arrested them.
