10 killed as microbus carrying bridal party falls into Barguna canal

At least ten people were killed and several others injured as a microbus and an auto-rickshaw carrying a bridal party plunged into a canal from a bridge in Amtali upazila of Barguna on Saturday.
The bridge connecting the Chawra and Haldia Hat area of the upazila broke down at around 2pm on Saturday when the microbus and auto-rickshaw were crossing it.
The passengers of the auto-rickshaw got out of the vehicle but most of the passengers were stuck in the microbus. The passengers were headed for a wedding party from Madaripur district.
Asadazzaman Mintu Mollik, chairman of Haldia union parishad, said several people were also injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-charge of Amtali police station Kazi Shakhawat Hossain Tapu said nine bodies, so far, were recovered from the canal. Among the deceased two were women.
The bodies were sent to Amtali Health Complex. The victims were the passengers of the microbus.
The death toll may increase, the OC said around 3:30pm, adding that the microbus is still under water.
