Two boundary walls of Payra Sea Port collapsed again

Two 100-foot-long boundary walls of the residential building area of Payra Seaport in Kalapara, Patuakhali have collapsed again.
On Tuesday evening, the two boundary walls collapsed in the Chaiani canal on the northern side of the area. Locals claim that such a situation has arisen due to the use of low-quality materials in the construction of the boundary wall.
Earlier, in January 2023, a 100-foot-long boundary wall in the same area collapsed towards the canal before the construction work was completed. In addition, on June 30 of the same year, another boundary wall collapsed and 3 walls collapsed before the construction work was completed. Currently, about 3,000 feet of guide wall are at risk. Locals have expressed anger over the collapse of the wall again after a gap of 3 years.
According to Payra Port Authority sources, in 2023, a contracting company named ABM Water Company constructed this 3,000-foot-long boundary wall at a cost of Tk 110 million.
Locals claim that the port authorities' indifference has led to widespread irregularities and corruption in this low-quality and unplanned work.
Payra Sea Port Deputy Director Md. Azizur Rahman said, "I have spoken to the Engineering Department regarding this matter. The Engineering Department said that the matter is under their observation. The incident occurred when the soil beneath the wall shifted due to heavy rainfall. It will be repaired quickly by the contractor once the rain stops."
