A tree plantation program titled “One Child, One Tree” has been launched in Rajshahi under the initiative of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi.

The program was inaugurated at Nowhata Girls’ High School in Paba Upazila of Rajshahi at 11:00 am on Tuesday by Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources and MP from Rajshahi-3 constituency.

At the inaugural ceremony, the organizers said the initiative was undertaken to contribute to the success of the government’s target of planting 250 million trees over five years, announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Under the program, every student of each school will receive one sapling and, with the assistance of their parents, will plant and nurture it.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof Dr. Shamim Ara Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi. Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP of Rajshahi-3, addressed the event as the chief guest.

Prof Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Rajshahi Education Board, and Ibnul Abedin, UNO were present as special guests. Head Teacher Shamsuddin Pramanik, Education Board Analyst Programmer Sirajul Islam, and ninth-grade student Anika Tabassum Hanna also spoke at the event.

Former Mayor of Nowhata Municipality Mokbul Hossain and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mehedi Hasan were also present on the stage.

Among others present were Rajshahi Education Board Programmer Mamun-or-Rashid, Officers’ Welfare Association President Md. Durul Huda, Secretary Md. Golam Nabi, Employees’ Union President Azad Ali, Deputy School Inspector Liton Sarker, Deputy Controller of Examinations Zahidur Rahim, Public Relations Officer Sultana Shamima Akter, and other senior officials.
