
Youth killed in fire extinguisher explosion in Cox’s Bazar
A shop employee named Milon Chakma (25) was killed when a fire extinguisher exploded while being loaded and unloaded in Cox’s Bazar town.
The tragic incident took place around 10:00 PM on Tuesday in the Kachhapia Pukur Par area of the town, confirmed Elias Khan, OC of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.
The deceased, Milon Chakma, was the son of Sommion Chakma from Monkhali in the Jaliapalong Union of Ukhiya upazila. He had been working at Bhuiyan Enterprise, a shop dealing in cooking gas and fire extinguishers, in the Kachhapia Pukur Par area of Cox’s Bazar town.
Quoting eyewitnesses and locals, OC Elias Khan said that on the night of the incident, while working at the shop, one of the employees accidentally dropped a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher exploded, severely injuring Milon Chakma’s right hand and causing critical damage to his lungs.
Locals immediately rescued him and rushed him to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11:45 PM while undergoing treatment.
