World Environment Day 2026 was observed in Pirojpur on.Thursday with a renewed call for individual and collective civic responsibility to mitigate the adverse impacts of global climate change. This year, the day was marked under the central theme, "Climate Action: Today's Steps, Tomorrow's Security."

Jointly organized by the Pirojpur District Administration and the Department of Environment, the day's program commenced at 11:00 AM with a colourful rally. The procession started from the local Circuit House and paraded through the town's main thoroughfares, Following the rally, a seminar and discussion meeting was held at the DC conference room.

Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed presided over the discussion, while Nikhil Chandra Dhali, Assistant Director of the local Department of Environment, delivered the welcome address. Additional District Commissioner (General) Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan Jony, District BNP Member Secretary S.M. Saidul Islam Kismat, and District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Principal Zahirul Haque addressed the gathering as special guests.

In his presidential address, Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed emphasized that government initiatives alone are not enough to combat the climate crisis; rather, every citizen must play a proactive role in conserving nature. He urged the public to focus heavily on extensive tree plantation, minimize the use of single-use plastics, and practice the sustainable utilization of natural resources to ensure ecological balance.

The seminar was attended by senior government officials, freedom fighters, representatives of various social organizations, students, and journalists from print and electronic media.
