A colourful march and rally was held in Pirojpur as part of the 'July March for Nation-Building' announced by the National Citizens Party (NCP) to mark the one-year anniversary of the historic July Uprising.
The march started from the Pirojpur Sadar CO office premises and ended at the city's central Shaheed Minar on the afternoon of July 13 (Sunday). However, the rally was shortened due to heavy rain in adverse weather conditions.
The central leaders of the NCP reached Pirojpur the previous night. Around forty leaders of the central delegation participated in the march and rally.
NCP top leader and convener Nahid Islam, joint member secretary Mashiur Rahman, and leaders from Barisal and Pirojpur districts spoke at the gathering.
Nahid Islam said, "Even after a mass uprising, we do not want to go back to the old system. We will no longer tolerate the politics of sleep, torture, occupation, coercion, and forcible seizure of power."
He further said, "In the spirit of the historic July mass uprising, we have set out on a journey to build a new Bangladesh with the people of the country. We are visiting cities and villages, listening to the voices of ordinary people, and building a future outline based on their problems."
Despite the short time due to heavy rain, the participation of the local public was visible. However, the rally ended before the scheduled time.
After the program in Pirojpur, the central leaders left for Jhalakathi, where another march and road meeting is scheduled to be held in the afternoon.
It is noteworthy that just four months after its debut, the newly formed political party NCP has undertaken a month-long march program in 64 districts of Bangladesh. The program began with a visit to the grave of Abu Said, one of the martyred leaders of the freedom struggle.
