Water disconnection drive begins in Kalapara ahead of Eid

Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent

To recover longstanding unpaid bills from the water supply division, Kalapara Municipality in Patuakhali has launched a water connection disconnection drive ahead of Eid on Tuesday morning.

Eleven water connections were severed across various parts of the town. Additionally, 48 business owners operating without valid trade licenses or with expired licenses were formally warned.

Kalapara Municipality Secretary Kabyalal Chakraborty stated that nearly one crore taka in unpaid water bills remain outstanding. Despite issuing multiple notices and making public announcements, many users continued to consume water without paying their dues. As a result, the disconnection campaign was initiated, with 11 connections cut off on the first day.

Chakraborty also mentioned that many businesses within the municipality are operating either without a trade license or with expired ones. A total of 48 such businesses were cautioned today. If they fail to renew their licenses within the stipulated timeframe, legal action will be taken in accordance with municipal regulations.

Municipality Administrator Md. Robiul Islam said that various initiatives have been undertaken to improve civic services. These include road development, drainage and culvert construction to prevent waterlogging, clearing of canals and waste, installation of streetlights at night, and overall sustainable development plans for the town—all backed by active revenue collection.
