Mr. Mitchell Lee, Charge d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, in his office ib Tuesday. Second Secretary of the High Commission Dhanya Lingesh and Hew Kok Siang were present with him.
Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University, and Md. Hasan Abdullah Touhid, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest, especially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative educational and research programs between Dhaka University and various universities, including the National University of Singapore.
Mr. Mitchell Lee, Charge d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission, emphasized strengthening educational cooperation to enhance intellectual capacity between Dhaka University and various universities in Singapore.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan informed the Charge d’Affaires about the brief history of Dhaka University and its educational and research activities. He thanked the guest for visiting Dhaka University and for his deep interest in its educational and research activities.
Later, Mr. Mitchell Lee, Charge d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission, delivered a special lecture titled "Making Friends and Staying Relevant: Singapore’s Foreign Policy Explained" at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom. The event was organized by the International Affairs Office of Dhaka University.
Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), spoke at the event. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, Director of the International Affairs Office.
Charge d’Affaires Mr. Mitchell Lee highlighted Singapore’s foreign policy and diplomatic strategies behind the country’s economic development. He stated that Singapore has established its position as an important part of global politics, the global economy, and global culture. Behind Singapore’s success are its vibrant economy, strong defense, social stability and cohesion, a globally friendly attitude, respect for international law, and a policy of credible and consistent partnership.
