Veteran musician of Faridpur Ustad Khairul Islam Neelu passes away

Renowned musician and veteran teacher of Faridpur, resident of Bhatilaxmipur area of the city, Ustad Khairul Islam Neelu passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un).
He passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city due to various age-related illnesses at around 9:20 am on Monday. He was 87 years old.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, and one daughter. His funeral prayer was held after Asr prayer on Monday at Yasin Manzil Jame Mosque in Bhatilaxmipur. Later, he was buried at Alipur Municipal Graveyard.
News of Ustad Khairul Islam Neelu’s death has cast a shadow of mourning over the literary and cultural circles of Faridpur. Khairul Islam was a leading figure in Faridpur’s music world. He was the founding president of Faridpur Lalitkala Academy. For a long time, he served as a music teacher at Faridpur Shilpakala Academy. Faridpur Khelaghor awarded him the Tapan Bose Memorial Medal and Shilpakala Academy honored him with the Sangeet Gunin Award. Besides, Kheya Cultural Organization and Faridpur Probhin Hitoishi Sangh awarded him honors and commemorative crests.
