Four Bangladeshi-American politicians secured victories in state-level legislative races across New Hampshire, Georgia, Connecticut, and North Carolina during the US midterm elections held on Tuesday. 

Among the victors, one candidate represented the Republican Party, while three were elected on Democratic Party tickets.

In New Hampshire, Republican candidate Abul Khan, originating from Pirojpur, secured his seventh term as a State Representative. In Georgia, Democratic candidate Sheikh Rahman, hailing from Kishoreganj, was re-elected unopposed for a fifth term in the Georgia State Senate from District-5. In Connecticut, Masudur Rahman, hailing from Chandpur, won his third term as a Democratic State Senator for District-4 by a substantial margin. In North Carolina, Democratic candidate Hasib Fatemi, originally from Gazipur, was elected to the North Carolina State Senate from District-18.

Meanwhile, Saddam Azlan Salim, hailing from Noakhali, continues to serve his tenure in the Virginia State Senate for District-37 following his election in 2024, with his seat up for re-election next year.

Expatriate Bangladeshi community leaders and political analysts in the United States expressed optimism regarding the election outcomes and the broader Democratic gains in both houses of Congress. Expatriates noted that voter sentiment reflected dissatisfaction over executive policy decisions during President Donald Trump's second term, citing economic pressures, rising inflation, tariff disputes, strict immigration measures, and foreign policy friction as key factors influencing the ballot.

Commenting on the geopolitical implications, international relations observers noted that despite shifting legislative balances in Washington, core US foreign policy directives regarding Bangladesh are likely to remain consistent regardless of party control.
