Police recovered an unidentified body was recovered from the Bhairab Upazila Awami League (AL) office in Bhairab port town of Kishoreganj on Wednesday afternoon.

Body was sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH) morgue for an autopsy.

Police said the deceased could not be identified. The body had injury marks on its head. He was 35-38 years old. He was wearing pants, but no shirt. A liquor bottle, an inhaler and a mobile phone set were found next to the body.

In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab model Police Station, Khandaker Fuad Ruhani told the New Nation that, efforts are being made to identify the body using information technology.

Bhairab Upazila Awami League (AL) office is located in the yellow area of the market area. According to locals, the party office was vandalized extensively after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. Since then, there has been little traffic there. The organizational activities of the Swechchhasebak League were conducted in a room of the Awami League office. Wednesday noon, a passerby saw the body of a person at the Swechchhasebak League office. Later, a crowd of curious people gathered around the body. The police arrived, and the body was recovered and sent to Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Upazila Awami League General Secretary Jahangir Alam could not be contacted as his mobile phone was switched off. Upazila Awami League President Md. Sayedullah Mia has been away from party activities for a long time due to illness.

However, an Awami League leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that after the fall of the Awami League government, the entire party office has been reduced to rubble. The building is now abandoned. Since the office is deserted, the murderous gang may have taken advantage.
