Two time bombs were recovered and safely defused by a bomb disposal squad at the Motijheel Metro Rail Station in the capital. A potential major sabotage attempt was successfully thwarted due to the immediate alertness of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party members and the coordinated efforts of relevant agencies. No casualties or damages were reported in connection with the incident.
The confirmation was provided on Friday night by Ansar Headquarters Deputy Director (Media) Md. Ashikuzzaman.
According to his statement, at around 6:00 PM, Ansar Platoon Commander (APC) Md. Rokonuzzaman, on duty at the ground floor of the Motijheel Metro Rail Station, spotted a live time bomb and immediately informed the station controller.
At that moment, a procession was passing along the road adjacent to the station. Considering the gravity of the situation, Ansar personnel quickly evacuated the public and procession participants to a safe area and redirected them to alternative routes.
Upon receiving the alert, a specialized bomb disposal team arrived at the scene and neutralized the first bomb through a controlled explosion. Subsequently, around 7:30 PM, a thorough search led to the discovery of a second time bomb in the same area, which was also safely defused.
Ansar Headquarters stated that the swift decision-making, responsibility, and coordinated actions of its members alongside law enforcement agencies successfully averted potential sabotage.
