Tarek Salman Co-Organizing Secretary of SAARC Dhaka South
Tarek Salman, a son of a villager from Patuakhali and staff reporter of the national daily Bangladesh Samachar, has been nominated as the co-organizing secretary of the 59-member full committee of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch of the SAARC Human Rights Foundation for the term of 2026-2028. He is also a member of the Patuakhali Journalists Forum in Dhaka.
The committee was approved on Thursday by the organization's president Justice Siddiqur Rahman Mia and secretary general Professor Mohammad Abed Ali. KM Motalib Hossain has been appointed as the president and Syed Mohiuddin Shah as the general secretary of the approved committee.
The approval letter states that the organization will play an effective role in protecting the human rights of the helpless, oppressed and deprived people of the area and preventing human rights violations through its Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch. Emphasis has been placed on establishing the rights of all and working to protect human dignity, regardless of religion, caste, gender and ethnic identity.
In addition, the authorization letter includes instructions to receive complaints of human rights violations, review related incidents, and take necessary steps, as well as take initiatives to celebrate various national and international days.
In response to receiving the new responsibility, Tarek Salman said, "I will work with utmost sincerity, dedication and hard work to properly fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me. I will strive to uphold the dignity of the responsibility that has been given to me."
He further said, "I will work to make the Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch of the SAARC Human Rights Foundation stronger and more well-organized. Along with this, I will try to play an active role in establishing the rights of the oppressed, oppressed and deprived people of the society. I consider it a moral responsibility to protect human values, justice and human dignity."
The organization has expressed hope that through the new committee, activities to protect human rights, increase public awareness, and stand by the rights-deprived people in the southern area of Dhaka Metropolitan City will be further strengthened.
