State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Division Md. Rajib Ahsan, MP inspected the long-abandoned Mogalhat Land Port in Lalmonirhat on Sunday to evaluate the feasibility of reopening the facility.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP attended as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting organized on the occasion.

"Reopening Mogalhat Land Port will inject new momentum into bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India, generating positive impacts on the local economy, business activities, and employment across the Lalmonirhat region," State Minister Rajib Ahsan said.

He noted that senior officials, including Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Mohammad Manzarul Mannan, have already inspected the physical infrastructure and overall condition of the port, subsequently preparing a comprehensive assessment report

Operational activity at Mogalhat Land Port came to a standstill after a severe flood damaged the railway bridge over the Dharla River in 1988. Re-establishing the port is expected to boost cross-border connectivity, trade volume, and economic vitality across northern Bangladesh.
