A tragic road accident claimed the life of Md Zahidul Islam (16), an SSC examinee, in the Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar on Thursday morning.

 The accident occurred around 8:30am in front of a gas pump in the Purbo Singur area under Baramchal Union.

Zahidul, the youngest son of Ruhul Amin from Paschim Singur village, was appearing for the SSC examination this year from Singur High School.

According to locals, Zahidul had left home on his motorcycle early in the morning to drop his younger sister at Yusuf Tayebun Girls’ High School. On his way back, a speeding Tata vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with his motorcycle near the gas pump along the Brahmanbazar-Fenchuganj road. Zahidul sustained critical injuries in the crash.

He was first rushed to the Muslim Aid Hospital by locals and later transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital in Sylhet as his condition worsened. Despite efforts to save him, Zahidul died in the ICU around 3:00pm.

On Thursday, Zahidul was scheduled to appear for his Agriculture Studies exam at the Jalalabad High School exam center. However, his life was tragically cut short before he could take the test.

Bihit Ranjan Deb, head teacher of Singur High School, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “Zahidul was a brilliant and humble student. I was left speechless upon hearing the news. His sudden death has cast a shadow of grief over our school community.”

Kulaura Police Station OC Md Golam Apchar confirmed the incident, stating that the police had visited the scene and that legal procedures were underway. “The body will be handed over to the family after autopsy,” he added.
