Snipping Adviser Sakhawat visits Dredger Training Institute at Shimulia, master plan for eco-port costing Tk 751 cr presented

Brigadier General ( Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain  inaugurated and inspected the Dredger Training Institute established by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at Shimulia Ghat area in Louhajang Upazila, Munshiganj on Thursday afternoon.

During a meeting at the institute's auditorium, BIWTA officials presented a master plan costing approximately Tk 751 crore to develop Shimulia Ghat into a modern eco-port, re-establish the ferry terminal, and create a tourism center. The main objective of this plan is to transform Shimulia into an environmentally friendly riverine communication and tourism hub, leveraging the potential of the Padma Bridge.

Present at the occasion were BIWTA Chairman Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa, Deputy Director Md. Ashraful Rahman, Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Additional District Magistrate Md. Rezaul Karim, Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nesar Uddin, and other relevant officials.

The adviser said, thanks to the Padma Bridge, the potential of the southwestern region has significantly increased. The Dredge Training Institute will play a crucial role in developing skilled human resources for river management in the country."
