Schedule for tea workers' union polls likely by Aug 30: Minister

Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury on Monday expressed hope that the election schedule for the Bangladesh Cha Sramik Union (Tea Workers' Union) would be announced by August 30. 

He expressed the hope when a delegation of the Bangladesh Tea Association met him at his office.

During the meeting, they discussed the overall development of the tea industry and the welfare of tea workers.

The minister also held fruitful discussions with tea estate owners on the legitimate demands of tea workers.

The meeting focused on boosting tea production, improving workers' living standards and maintaining cordial relations between tea estate owners and workers.

Representatives of the Bangladesh Tea Association thanked the government for its continued cooperation in developing the tea sector.

Labour and Employment Secretary Abdur Rahman Tarafder, Bangladesh Tea Association Chairman Kamran T Rahman and General Secretary Kazi Muzaffar Ahmed, among others, were present at the meeting.
