Rural dilapidated roads in Mirsarai need urgent repair

The monsoon rains have made the rural roads muddy and impassable. The dirt roads in various areas of Mirsarai Upazila have developed cracks and in some places mud has accumulated. This has caused extreme suffering to the common people, including school and college-going students.
Locals said that the Lal Tila road in Paschim Alinagar village of Karerhat union has not been renovated for a long time, so the roads get submerged in mud every time it rains. In particular, Madhurima Resort, one of the tourist destinations in the region, receives hundreds of tourists every day through the Lal Tila road. Tourists have to leave their cars and walk 1 kilometer along the road. In addition, farmers in the village are facing losses as they are unable to take their crops to the market. School-going children in particular have to fight with mud and water on the roads every day in addition to studying.
Propasi Moin Uddin, owner of Madhurima Resort, said, "The condition of the road is such that even motorcycles or rickshaws cannot move, let alone walk. Every day, someone falls in the mud. We have applied for renovation several times in the past. This is a road under the ID of LGED. We demand that the road be renovated and at least made suitable for walking."
Locals complain that despite multiple complaints to local public representatives, no effective action has been taken yet.
In this regard, Karerhat Union Parishad Panel Chairman Mohiuddin said, "We are aware of the matter. Many applications have been submitted to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer. The application for the said road will be notified. I hope that initiatives will be taken to repair the road during the dry season."
UNO Somaiya Akhter has already taken the initiative to repair various broken roads in the upazila and issued a notice for applications on the official Facebook page.
