The newly elected members of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) have officially begun their activities by paying tribute at the grave of Shaheed Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, the university’s revered teacher who sacrificed his life in defense of students’ rights.
At around 11 a.m. on Monday, the RUCSU panel visited the university graveyard to offer prayers and pay homage. Later, they also visited the graves of Shaheed Sakib Anjum and Shaheed Ali Raihan in Rajshahi, two student martyrs of the July Movement.
Speaking on the occasion, newly elected Vice President (VP) Mostakur Rahman Jahid said, “We begin our journey by seeking blessings at the grave of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Sir. He dedicated his life for the dignity and rights of students—may Allah accept his martyrdom. We aspire to uphold his ideals and work sincerely for the welfare of our students.”
VP Jahid added that the newly elected representatives will continue their engagements with families of the martyrs and meet with the Election Commission and university administration before the official oath-taking ceremony.
“Our formal activities will start after the swearing-in ceremony. We will also pay courtesy visits to the university authorities and election officials,” he said.
Among those present were General Secretary (GS) Salah Uddin Ammar, Assistant General Secretary (AGS) S.M. Salman Sabbir, Science and Technology Secretary Tofayel Ahmed Tofa, Cultural Affairs Secretary Zayid Hasan Zoha, Media and Publications Secretary Md. Mujahid Islam, Assistant Information and Research Secretary Sifat Abu Saleh, Assistant Sports Secretary Abu Sayeed Muhammad Noon, Assistant Debate and Literary Secretary Md. Nayon Hossain, and Executive Members Md. Deep Mahbub and Md. Imjiyaul Haque Kamali.
The solemn tribute marks the symbolic beginning of a new chapter for RUCSU after its long-awaited revival, emphasizing commitment to student welfare and the enduring spirit of sacrifice embodied by Shaheed Shamsuzzoha.
