Protest in Noakhali demanding justice for murder of madrasa student

Noakhali Correspondent

A protest and human chain were held in Sonapur, Noakhali Sadar Upazila, demanding justice for the murder of madrasa student Jobayer Ibne Judan on Saturday noon, local residents organized this program on the Noakhali Union Parishad road.

During this time, vehicular movement on the Sonapur-Saheber Hat road was halted for about half an hour.

The protest was attended by the deceased Judan’s father, Aminul Islam Sohel, mother, Sabina Khatun Juma, along with local dignitaries. Judan’s father stated that Judan was a student in the Hifz department of Sonapur Mohabbatpur Tajbidul Quran Sobhania Madrasa and Orphanage. He was always cheerful and happy. On April 30, the madrasa informed them by phone that their son was ill and had been admitted to Sadar Hospital. However, upon arriving there, they found their son dead. When asked, they were told that he had committed suicide.

He further stated that two days before his death, the madrasa authorities punished Judan over a game. First, they shaved his head, and then they made him hold his ears and keep his head under a table. He claimed that a 10-year-old boy could not commit suicide, and the madrasa authorities killed him through physical torture and staged a hanging to cover it up. Although they tried to file a murder case at the police station, the police did not accept it. Even after two months, they have not yet received the autopsy report.

The  OC of Sudharam Police Station, Md. Kamrul Islam  said,  the autopsy report has recently been received. It states that Judan’s death was due to hanging. Further details can be provided subject to investigation.
